	New Examination Meets Demands for Qualifications in Local Exhaust Ventilation (Lev) Design Every year, thousands of people in the UK die of lung disease or get asthma because of airborne contaminants they have breathed-in at work. Workplaces which produce dust (such as flour dust in bakeries), mist (including paint mist from spraying), fumes (from welding, for example), gases (such as carbon monoxide from furnaces) or vapour (like solvents from finishing processes) may be putting the health of their employees at risk. Employers have a duty by law to control these risks under the COSHH regulations, and local exhaust ventilation (LEV) can provide part of the solution.

	Made to Measure There may be lies, damned lies and statistics but statistics are one thing that the economy and climate change share in common. Differing statistics are quoted almost on a weekly basis in terms of the rate and extent of global warming, carbon emissions etc while no-one even seems to agree on the actual level of inflation. But while statistics can be and often are manipulated to say whatever is required, the need to measure events and activities is essential because effective management begins with accurate measurement.

(1) In an office, it will always be my desk that is under the fluorescent tube that is flickering. (2) When trying to dispose of said tube, it will always break.
